"My adolescence at Granieri"

A free photography workshop open to young girls and boys living in Granieri who during the Academic Year 2007/2008 have attended secondary level school (Scuola Media, between the ages of 11 and 14).

The course, organised by the Associazione Culturale Obiettivo Granieri on its premises in Poggio Castel Granieri, will be run by Cristina Ferraiuolo and Ninni Romeo with the assistance of the photographers Luca Anzani, Diana Caminiti and Massimo Nicolaci.
In the small and hardworking hamlet of Granieri, an inland agricultural area in the borough of Caltagirone particularly renowned for its table grapes, twenty local youngsters will learn to express themselves and their experience through a lens by turning it onto their own land and environment while also being offered the opportunity of learning the very meticulous aspects of dark room technique as a revealing experience and a process through which they can create their own images.
In a world flooded with indiscriminate images and where, especially among youngsters at a most vulnerable age, images are used without any kind of awareness or consideration, the Obiettivo Granieri workshop intends to introduce photography as a tool for true expression of one's feelings, as a way of learning to see and interpret the reality one lives in, recognising one's own emotions and respecting one's own sensibility.
The week long workshop program includes:

• an introduction to photography through the projection of a series of images by major photographers
• practical exercises in photographic shot taking initially led by teachers and subsequently by the students on their own
• review sessions of the photos taken
• selection of the images (editing) that are to be included in the final presentation
• practice in dark room developing and printing
• the collective preparation of the end of course slideshow (31 August 2008 - 9.00 pm).

A journey to discover oneself, by photographing one's family, the people dear to us, one's daily existence, with a particular focus on one's own land, one's roots and identity.
The initiative was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Council of Caltagirone and the collaboration of the San Giovanni Battista Parish of Granieri and the Istituto Comprensivo Alessio Narbone of Caltagirone.
Course end evening with party and slideshow open to the public on Sunday 31st of August at 9.00 pm in the main courtyard of the Masseria Silvestri of Poggio Castel Granieri
