Photography can accompany us through the wonderful and adventurous journey of life, it can help us to express our condition as permanent travelers in a journey which is not only physical, on the road, but also of the imagination. Together we can try to learn to use this particularly expressive medium, not just as a way of reproducing reality, but so as to capture all its contradictions and complications, and get closer to the actual soul of the region. This course is designed to help you visualize those aspects, and expressive elements of the landscape around Granieri (Calatino Ovest), which do not conform to the Sicilian stereotype. The focus will therefore be an imaginative approach to a project concept, with particular attention paid to the symbolic value of the photos. The starting point for this approach will necessary begin in the dark room.

Roberto Salbitani, born in Padua in 1945, he started working with photography in 1971. During the 70’s he accompanied his travels through Italy and many foreign countries by producing photographic series such as “Viaggio” (1974 - 1982) and “From a Thousand and One Nights” (1973-1982). In 1980 he founded the Centro Fotografia Giudecca whose name was inspired by the Venetian island by the same name where, until 1985, he organised all-encompassing photographic programs which included courses, exhibitions, discussion groups, territorial experiences and historic archives. In 1986 he started the School of Nature Photography in Mogginano in the Province of Arezzo in conjunction with which he organised courses on photographic expression and literature. In 1993 he received the Premio Friuli/Venezia Giulia for photography. His publications include “Immaginesimo” Modena 1974, “La Citta Invasa” Modena 1978, “Incontri con animali straordinari” Bologna 1992, “Roberto Salbitani” Casarsa 1994 and “Ritratti a Bologna” (1999 / 2000). His work are in the collection of the following museum: Biblioteque Nationale of Paris, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth, at the Museum of Photography of Cinisello Balsamo and at the Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione of the University of Parma.
